Weddings

Can I get married in your Church?

You are entitled to get married in this Church if either of you live in the parish of St Andrew's, Bennett Road, Charminster in Bournemouth, Dorset or if one of the couple is on the church electoral roll.

How do I book the Church?

Please send an email to standrewsoffice@talktalk.net or phone us on: 01202 397452

What are the legal requirements?

You must have your banns read out on three separate, consecutive Sundays during the three months BEFORE your wedding day in the Church of your local parish. Alternatively if one of you is abroad you can arrange for a license to be granted.

If you are under 18 then you need your parents' written permission.

How much will it cost?

The mandatory fees (legal, registry and publication of banns) are fixed for all Church of England churches and can be found at http://www.cofe.anglican.org/lifeevents/ministry/workofmindiv/dracsc/tableparochialfees2008.doc

An organist is available and normally the charge for this is £45.00.

Can I choose the kind of service I want?
There are a number of formats available to you for your wedding service.  These will be discussed with you.

What if one of us is divorced?
St Andrew's will not normally marry divorcees unless there are exceptional circumstances. Please discuss this matter with the Vicar.

What hymns and songs can I have?
Most music is acceptable as long as it does not break copyright laws.

Is there any marriage preparation?
We would look to see couples on three separate occasions before the wedding.

Christenings and baptisms

What is the difference between a Baptism and a Christening?
There is no difference. They are the same thing; just different words.

What is the right age for Baptism?
There is no set age or age limit.

Can I or my child be Baptised if I/we do not attend Church regularly?
Regular attendance is the ideal. During the Baptism Service the parents and godparents will be asked to make some far reaching declarations. During preparation for Baptism there will be discussions to see if this or a thanksgiving service is more appropriate.

What does it cost?
The Baptism service is free.

Godparents?
You should generally have three godparents, two of the same sex and one of the opposite.  Godparents should be people who will take an active interest in the spiritual welfare of the child being baptised.

Who should I contact?
Please phone our vicar, Graham Roberts, on 01202 396022.
